United Airlines clos its Indianapolis and Oakland maintenance bases last month and said it intends to outsource heavy maintenance work in what it described as its first "major transformation steps" beneath its bankruptcy reorganization. All of United's unions signed on the farther side on new labor agreements that collectively will save an estimated $256 billion annually. The maintenance center closure in Indianapolis will affect approximately 1400 employees; more than 900 are impacted by means of Oakland base closing.
